Learning Marketing Cloud Advanced in one week

Do you ever think that learning a new skill or product can take a lifetime?
In the Salesforce Ecosystem the products are ever changing, ever adapting and ever improving. With this in mind it’s hard to keep up with the latest information. However, if I can learn Marketing Cloud Advanced in one week, so can you!

So first things first, it’s not an easy challenge – especially when working your normal 9-5. With this in mind you will have to dedicate some time to learning the new product across the week. I blocked out some time in my work calendar so I’d recommend doing the same if you can – making sure these are some chunky time frames (min 1.5 hours at a time). For context, I come from an Account Engagement background, but Marketing Cloud Advanced isn’t designed to be a like for like so this didn’t necessarily give me an advantage.

One thing I did find though, is that the interface is a lot more user friendly, with the product being built on the core platform a lot of the navigation is easy to pick up.

Similarly, there are features such as the drag and drop builders that are similar to those in Account Engagement (if you have them enabled), plus additional features included which are so handy to use! These range from the form builder to content blocks for landing pages and emails. Honestly saves you so much time when creating assets. Another thing to note is that you can set up a brand (or as many as you need) which you can select before starting to create any assets so you’re already brand compliant and don’t have to worry about changing all the settings all the time.

I did find that a key difference is that Marketing Cloud Advanced has a more campaign first approach. And from the campaign record you can navigate to so many different sections alongside creating assets linked directly to the campaign. Everything on the record itself was linked and I felt like there were a lot less clicks involved.

The consent piece and segmentation are the areas that will take you the longest to get your head around, in my opinion. But even just starting off with a basic understanding of the process/setup or options of what can / can’t be done then you’re in a good place.
