If you have been working with Salesforce for a while, you will have heard about Trailhead. Trailhead is Salesforce’s free to use learning platform. It helps Admins, Developers and users get a better understanding of the ever-growing Salesforce platform.
What is Trailhead?
Trailhead is a great tool with content appropriate for all levels of experience. From beginners badges such as Salesforce Platform Basics, advanced badges such as Process Automation Specialist, and for non-technical users such as Personal Productivity. At the time of writing this, I have over 400 badges.
Trailhead is available to anybody; you don’t even require access to Salesforce to set up an account. And with the new iPhone app, Trailhead Go, you are not tied to a computer, giving you the ability to learn on the go.
The training is available in multiple ways that help support various learning styles.
Modules
Modules are small learning courses split into units training you on a set topic followed up by a test. The test could be a hands-on challenge that you complete in your own Salesforce Playground. Or you could have multiple-choice questions to test your knowledge.
Projects
Similar to modules, these are split into units. However, projects are step by step instructions that you follow in order to complete tasks in your own Salesforce Playground.
Superbadges
Superbadges are large complex badges. They test your knowledge in a real-world scenario giving you business requirements and a set of tasks and questions to complete. Before you can start a Superbadge, you must unlock it by completing multiple modules & projects.
Trails & Trailmixes
If you are looking for related content, look no further. Trails are a group of related modules & projects setup by Salesforce. Users create Trailmixes (you can create your own) to group together modules, projects & superbadges. These can be used to help track progress to a specific task.
Trailhead Live
The latest addition to Trailhead (Introduced at Dreamforce ’19). Trailhead Live provides on-demand and live training videos produced by Salesforce. Each video has related modules & projects that you can complete after the video.
How do I become a Trailhead Ranger?
Each time you complete a Module, Project or Superbadge, you are rewarded with a badge. This badge shows that you have completed the training. Along with the badge, you also gain points. The points vary between badges with hand-on challenges being worth more and Superbadges having the most.
Each user starts as a Scout. By earning badges and points, you work your way up to the seventh level Ranger. To become a Ranger, you must complete 100 badges and gain 50,000 points. So this is no easy task.
Why should I become a Trailhead Ranger?
When you become a Trailhead Ranger, you will have covered multiple topics, gained a better understanding of the Salesforce platform and proved that you’re dedicated to self-improvement.
The Salesforce Platform is so large that it is not possible to be an expert in all areas. Trailhead gives you the ability to focus on specific areas and find out about topics as required. If you are looking for a new job, this can be a useful tool to prove you have the skills needed. If you are looking to become certified, Trailhead is the best first step forward.
As well as badges and points, you can even win prizes. Trailhead Quests provide challenges each month that if you complete, you could win a prize or be entered into a draw. As well as additional badges, you can also win prizes such as free certification vouchers or gift cards. So every badge you earn on the way to becoming a ranger could earn you cash.
